When you are away from home, your holiday home must feel like a treat, and that's is what we strive for here at Old Kilgobbin Cottages. The beds are plump and comfortable (not too hard, definitely not too soft) with down duvets and fluffy pillows, crisp white cotton percale linen, and loads of attention to details. When hiring the Cairn for a wedding, the accommodation in the two cottages and in the barn are part of the package.
I am a bit of a magpie, so decorating the cottages was a great excuse for me to collect antiques and vintage wares to make Gobbin Cottage feel like a home from yesteryear, with its touches of colonialism. Gobbin Cottage has one large loft bedroom upstairs with 2 queen beds, one cubbyhole with a luxury bunkbed perfect for the kids, and a lovely sash windowed bedroom out on the front veranda with 2 single beds and a separate loo and basin. There is a full bathroom with shower and slipper bath, an open plan kitchen and a cosy lounge with fireplace and underfloor heating.
The Coop is near the chicken coop (don't worry we don't have roosters as their crowing at 2.59am did not endear them to weary travellers!), and whilst decorated with a menagerie of framed farm animals, adding to the name's appropriateness, it is its size that actually coined the name of this bedsitter! Comfortable for two, but cooped for three! It has a shower bathroom, and a kitchenette, and an enclosed veranda.
